This last couple of weeks I have spent a lot of time reaching out to people who could add something valuable to my documentary, people who are going to tell this story well. This so far has involved Sister Supporter (a pro-choice organisation who campaign to introduce buffer zones outside of clinics), BPAS (Provider of abortion services in the UK, including the one here in Bournemouth) and Right to Life (a pro-life organisation). I hope to get dates in the diary for recorded interviews to take place in the next week or so.
I’m currently working on a personal rota to determine when is best to go down to the BPAS clinic in Bournemouth and observe and talk with those who are pro-life. I have fetched information on when it is busiest there and what groups/churches/organisations are currently occupying space outside. In all instances so far, it appears those who are pro-life and protesting are religiously motivated (something I’ll write more about soon).
On the information I have found so far activities include praying, chanting, plastic foetus models, leaving flowers and placing holy water at the clinic doors. In some cases those who are using the clinic are being approached and given leaflets with misleading information about abortion on them. I will in due course be able to confirm if that is still happening.
