LISTEN: Father Andrew, "we should be wary of these stories because they're exaggerated."

Updated: Dec 6, 2019

Friday morning, I was welcomed into the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Richmond Hill, Bournemouth. Father Andrew Wagstaff, who has been working here for two and a half years, was kind enough to put some time aside for me to talk to him about his stance on abortion and his membership and commitment to 40 Days for Life. Father Andrew also takes part in vigils outside of the BPAS clinic in Ophir road, Bournemouth twice a year as part of 40 Days for Life.

There were many parts of our conversation I’m keen to share with you in due course. I wanted to hear what 40 Days for Life involved and one part of it is the ‘statement of peace.’ Father Andrew talked me through the statement of peace that they declare to when they become a 40 days for life member. I intended to put a link here so you can see the statement yourself but at time of writing the web page no longer exists and finding the statement of peace online through a search engine is proving quite difficult. A screenshot I took previously of part of it can be found below.

What struck me was the stark contrast between what this statement requires them to adhere by and the behaviour of pro-life protesters that has been evidenced. That can be found at this link. Please note that this particular evidence is from a clinic in London and NOT Bournemouth but similar behaviour has been reported at BPAS, Ophir road, Bournemouth. I must also point out that not all pro-life protesters are members of 40 Days for Life.

I told him I have seen the evidence of what has happened outside of abortion clinics, the videos, the sound recordings, the testimonies. What did he think about that? You can listen below.
